The
following article appeared in the January 2000 issue of the New
England Pest Control Association's newsletter.
This
award is named for the founder and first president of the NEPCA.
The "Bart" is rewarded in recognition of individuals who
have distinguished themselves for many years of dedicated service
to the association and for their contributions to the growth of
the pest control industry in New England.
It
is with great pleasure that we announce this year's recipent - Rod
Kreimeyer.
During
the interview with Rod we quickly learned first-hand why he was
our choice. Rod received two phone calls from PCOs. These competitors
were asking for his assistance in pest control matters. The help
they were given was somewhere between the help a parent would give
their child and a professional educator would give a student. This
was reiterated in one of Rod's nominations which spoke of how "he
has always worked with...pest control companies sharing his knowledge,
enthusiasm and his business network to help them develop and succeed
in their businesses".
Rod
started his career in pest control in 1973 when he worked for The
L.A. Moore Company in New York. In 1974 he took a service manager's
position with Astor/Terminix in Boston. While working for Astor/Terminix,
Rod was given the opportunity to attend his first association meeting.
Two years later in 1976 he was elected to the board of directors
and has been involved with the association ever since. In 1982 Rod
became a sales representative serving the northeast region for York
Chemical and in 1985 founded Best Pest in Somerville, MA. In 1998
he downsized Best Pest to a four-person company and is no longer
doing termite work.
Rod
feels that pest control is an honorable profession. He loves this
business, people, a good challenge, his boat (hence the nickname
Captain), fishing and travel.
With
twenty plus years on the board he has worked under twelve presidents
of our association. He has chaired committees such as Education,
Controlling Interest, and By-Law. Rod founded and is the chairman
of the Mark Weintraub Scholarship Committee and is the chief auctioneer
of our annual fundraising auction.
When
Rod was first notified that he was to be the recipient of this year's
"Bart" his response to me was a vvery surprised - what's
the matter, did you run out of names?" Then it seems a sense
of pride set in. He is honored to be held in the same regards as
the past recipients of the Bart Award.
